To delete log files used for troubleshooting
To troubleshoot communication problems, you can set up Outlook Express to log all commands to and from e-mail and news servers. These files can get quite large, so it is important to remove them when you are finished troubleshooting.
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Maintenance tab, and then clear any selected check boxes in the Troubleshooting section.
- Close Outlook Express.
- If you are using Windows 98, click the Windows Start menu, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
- If you are using Windows 2000 or Windows Millennium Edition, click the Windows Start menu, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
- If you are using Windows XP, click the Windows Start menu, and then click Search.
- In the text box, enter the log file.
Log files are named by server type and have a .log extension (for example pop3.log, smtp.log). If you don't know the exact name of the log file, type *.log.
- In the results list, select the server log file, and on the File menu, click Delete.
